About the Nutro Shooting Dog Award The Nutro Award is a new award that recognizes the one-hour Brittany shooting dog. Modeled after the Iams Award for one-hour all-age dogs, points are awarded to dogs placing in one-hour open events that include horseback and foot-handled American Field shooting dog classics and championships, and AKC gun dog stakes. A painting of the winning dog will be presented to the owner at the National Brittany Open Gun Dog Championship at Ionia each year. Warren Montgomery at Nutro Products is responsible for sponsoring this award. Warren was a major force in developing the one-hour all-age dog when, in the mid-eighties, he created the ANF (Advanced Nutritional Formula) Award. Eventually, the ANF award became the Iams Award. The purpose for the Nutro Award is to recognize the top Brittany shooting dogs in the country. This award will also promote the running of one-hour shooting dog trials, encourage handlers to compete in one-hour trials, and acknowledge breeders that breed for one-hour dogs. The calendar year for this award began at the National Brittany Open Gun Dog Championship in May 2003 and continues through the Pennsylvania Brittany Open Shooting Dog Classic in mid-April 2004. A list of Nutro points trials follow this report and will be reviewed and updated annually by the Awards Committee. If your event is listed and you place an ad in the American Brittany magazine or the American Field, please state in the ad, “A Nutro Award points trial.” If your event is not listed, contact Martha Greenlee (tel. # 814-755-3625 or email greenlee@penn.com). The Nutro points standings will be published twice a year in the American Brittany magazine. The field trial secretary or the owner of the placing dog is responsible for submitting the placements and number of dogs entered to Steve Rollyson (voice mail: 304-755-7779 or email: steverollyson@adelphia.net). Points are calculated as follows: 8 points for first place, 6 points for second, 4 points for third, and 2 point for fourth multiplied by the number of entered dogs. For events with a second series, points are calculated as follows: 10 points for first place, 8 points for second, 6 points for third, and 4 points for fourth. The first Nutro Award will be announced at the National Brittany Open Gun Dog Championship in May 2004. In May 2005, a painting will be presented to the 2004 winner and the 2005 winner will be announced.
