The IAMS Award 1986 - 2002

The IAMS Award was started in 1985 with the first award presented in 1986. It
was started in order to recognize dogs capable of winning one hour stakes, to promote
endurance, reward consistency, and to help keep interest up in one hour trials. To
these ends, the IAMS Award appears to have succeeded.
The rules are relatively simple. All one hour trials run under the auspices of
the AKC or The American Field are eligible. The winning dog received 8 points for
every dog that started, second got 6 for every dog that started, third place 4, and fourth
place 2 points for every dog that started. If there is a qualifying series before
the championship, then the points go up to a 10-8-6-4 times the number of dogs that start.
